iPhone Availability page back, some stores out of iPhone 3GS
Apple has brought back, and improved, a page on its website that allows users to check the availability of the iPhone 3GS at Apple's US retail locations. The availability page first surfaced last year after the highly successful launch of the iPhone 3G left many stores without stock.
The latest version is tied in to Apple's point-of-sale system and is updated on an hourly basis instead of being updated once a day like last year. This makes the page a little more useful, and you can check to see if stock is replenished throughout the day before heading off you your favorite Apple Store.
